The Cape Foulwind Project gifted the Haul Road and large portions of Lighthouse Road to Buller District Council. The council are planning a major rationalisation of the intersection opposite the Star Tavern in Cape Foulwind, an essential part of this project was to secure additional land suitable for a new trajectory for Cape Foulwind Road merging into Tauranga Bay Road. These land holdings we accumulated over the years by the various incarnations of the cement works and used as ‘haul roads’ to transport limestone from the quarries back to the cement works. Portions of Lighthouse Road were also part of the historic rail system used to transport granite rock from the Cape to control the mouth of the Buller River. We know council appreciated our gesture of gifting these land holdings, we are looking forward to civil works commencing on this road rationalisation in May this year.
